I first launched Scarlett Clemmow Writer in September 2022, and it’s already gone from strength to strength!
I had grown up with my parents’ local magazine publishing business, and I started writing for them aged just 10. It was a perfect education for a future copywriter: I wrote editorials for various local businesses; reviewed books, concerts and beauty treatments; and at one point became a regular columnist, writing about issues relevant to local teenagers each month. I look back at those columns now and cringe, but I was very lucky to gain the experience! During my school years, I also trained as a classical singer, though I was fascinated by music of all genres, so when the time came to choose a university degree, it seemed the obvious subject to choose.
In 2018, I went up to St John’s College, Cambridge, where I stayed for 4 years, completing a BA and a Master’s in music. During this time, I also started copywriting for a number of small businesses and creating content for various publications, alongside my studies. This meant that I spent time writing websites, blogs, articles, social media posts, emails, and just about everything else you can think of!
When I left university, I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I knew I loved writing, especially when it was on the subject of music. Having grown up in a household where self-employment was the norm, and not having found any jobs that I really wanted to apply for, I decided to launch my own business. My experience qualifies me to write for businesses of all sorts, but I continue to specialise in writing for the music industry. While I’m still only at the start of my career, I prefer to see my youth as an asset. I have my finger on the pulse of the future of content creation, and an in-depth understanding of my own generation’s interests and reading habits.
